Indoor Rally Cardiff
The Welsh rally broke new records today by staging the first indoor rally stage of its kind Sept 17th 2005 at Cardiff in the Millennium Stadium. The course was a simple 8 which showed the cars driving sideways more than on a straight line, showing the spectators what these cars and drivers can do. There were also other great benefits for the spectators, you saw the cars for all the stage, fantastic lighting and the noise with the closed roof added to the atmosphere.
The only disadvantage I could see was the slow speeds needed to complete the stage and of course the lack of jumps etc., but then, why have the rally outside at all, if indoor events can capture every aspect of rally driving.
The BBC claimed the drivers loved it so in all was a major success, so well done to the organisers. I still can't get my head around it all being in Wales though! Come on guys make assessable to us up North!!
