How To Afford A Great Driving Experience

Filed under: General — flanok @ 12:18 pm

It is not a coincidence that most popular Mercedes finance programme is a personal contract option that shows that many would rather own a Mercedes within a financial contract rather than buying a cheaper make or model of car outright.

In fact with a bit of research looking at all the car lease contract hire options, yon can often find deals that keep that monthly payment down.  the emphasis is similar to what drives car sales in the USA, that it is more about how much it costs per month rather than the total investment cost.

This is because it is rare for personal contract to be cheaper or as costs effective when you add up all the payments, to buying the car and then having an asset to sell say after 3 years. but for many they see this as  way of owning their preferred driving experience.

Fir business owners it can be a bit cheaper, in that they can claim back half of their VAT and set expenses against the business, that with the right choice of car, can be better than the company car tax they pay personally. Understanding if this is right for you, is the first priority, but don’t be surprised at the level of new cars that are purchased or leased this way, it is far more than you would imaging.

A Different Type Of Driving Experience

Filed under: General — Tags: — flanok @ 11:40 am

Unless you have been on holiday you can’t have helped noticing the sheet of icing that has covered the UK roads know as snow.  It seems we are a bit of a laughing stock throughout the world, which sees the whole of the UK come to a standstill every time we have a heavy dose of snow.

The news channels have been following this with advice of what to do in the snow. An interesting article appeared on Sky news on how to drive in these conditions, from a very slippery Silverstone. The most important piece of advice came from the instructor saying that car owners tend to drive exactly the same in the snow that in normal conditions, but of course the driving experience is totally different.

We need to think differently in these slippery situations. One other piece of advice is when entering a skid or slide is to one turn into the slide and power out and second to always look to where you want to go, not where the car is going.

Other simple advice is to allow more time for your journey, but we know that most of us will leave for work at the same time, expecting for traffic to move at the same speed.

Bugatti Veyron Does Not Smash Lap Record

Filed under: General — flanok @ 6:12 pm

We have waited some time to see the Buggatti Veyron be raced around the Top Gear race track from the now famous Stig, only to see it finish in forth. But then out went another supercar to knock it down to 5th.  There should not have been any surprises as the sheer weight of the car, would have made the cornering slower and less gentile throughout the race track.

There is no doubt that in a straight line the French made car with the Italian name, and an Audi engine would win them all with time to spare, but even the skills of the white overall driver that few know his real name, managed to get that top spot.

You just can’t imaging why they would build a car so great only to lose $5m every time they sold one, where is the marketing or business sense in that. If it were a rich billionaire who wanted to realise his childhood dream, would be fair enough, but no, this is a business trying to make a profit.
As we get to the driving experience, Jeremy says the only thing wrong with his driving experience, was knowing he would never own one. I can only assume that most owners would just drive the car on safe out of the way roads, but now probably not a race track, who would really use the car, where would you get a replacement radiator, if one of the eight radiators was to develop a fault?

Supposing it did breakdown on the motorway, would your friendly roadside assistance call out engineer have the right parts, or would be insured to put the car on the back of the back of the recovery vehicle. So it is an engineering marvel, everybody talks about the car, but what purpose doe this supercar have if a supped up Caterham R500 can beat it on the track and they can’t be insured by normal insurers and finally you are too scared to drive it on public roads.

They may end up like museum pieces like the one in Orlando Florida. You pay $20 to get in to see all the supercars, but it is the Buggati that everyone wants to see.  As far as value is concerned, don’t worry about credit crunch, there will be buyers for some time to come.

Driving More Safely

Filed under: General — flanok @ 11:47 am

As the motoring clubs became insurance companies offering breakdown cover as service, the subject of road safety was moved to charity organisations with similar names or to other organisations such as Brake.

Receiving roads safety news from the AA, RAC or Green Flag did give credibility of any argument and was sure to be transmitted by the news agencies, but it also raised its head to some criticism, that the road safety messages were themed to market their breakdown cover services rather than being and independent source to improving the driving experience on our roads.

If you need facts on road safety then the Brake Briefings will give the latest information, together with a news section that unfortunately seems to only show BBC news.  Green Flag does help with certain campaigns and in the past has helped promote road safety week, which has a different website again.

The latest message was the relationship between young drivers and drink related accidents, of course duly timed to transmit over the Christmas period. It might not be pretty but we do need these independent charities helping deliver messages that may just save lives.

We have been considering adding a real blog to this driving experience site for some time now. Original readers will see remnents of and existing blog, not done correctly that just didn’t work. So we hope this time we will keep going with driving information and a bit of motorsport thrown in.

That’s it for now, see you later
