Driving More Safely

Filed under: General — flanok @ 11:47 am

As the motoring clubs became insurance companies offering breakdown cover as service, the subject of road safety was moved to charity organisations with similar names or to other organisations such as Brake.

Receiving roads safety news from the AA, RAC or Green Flag did give credibility of any argument and was sure to be transmitted by the news agencies, but it also raised its head to some criticism, that the road safety messages were themed to market their breakdown cover services rather than being and independent source to improving the driving experience on our roads.

If you need facts on road safety then the Brake Briefings will give the latest information, together with a news section that unfortunately seems to only show BBC news.  Green Flag does help with certain campaigns and in the past has helped promote road safety week, which has a different website again.

The latest message was the relationship between young drivers and drink related accidents, of course duly timed to transmit over the Christmas period. It might not be pretty but we do need these independent charities helping deliver messages that may just save lives.
