Welsh Rally
I don't know about you but I still can't get used to the name of Welsh Rally. I was brought up with the RAC Rally or even Lombard. In those days the rally covered Wales, England and Scotland, with my favourite stages being in "killer Keilder, even so it seems the Welsh Rally is as popular as ever. It is also 2 months earlier than the original November.
Colin McRae is back in a Skoda and keeping UK rally fans happy, It has been a long time since we have seen him in this event after being away doing things like the Le Mans and Dakar Rally It starts off and finishes in Cardiff.
One of the benefits of everything being in Wales is the chance to see more stages if you plan it well, and obviously being cheaper for the teams and organisors rather than traveling over 3 parts of the UK. The disadvantages is of course, if you don't live in or near Wales you have quite a trek and have to pay for accommodation, going back a few years there was always a stage near you in most places of the UK.There is still a strong following for rallying in this country and there is no doubt there are some amazing driving skills that have to be seen to believed although the TV coverage seems pretty small.
It is also still accessible for rally car drivers who are not in the big league.Being at a rally is unlike any other motor sport, you still get the chance to be right next to the cars going by you at outstanding speeds, but you need to capture that moment because you wont see that car again unless you go to another stage.I live the the North East, so while it remains the Welsh Rally I will have to rely on TV coverage.
